CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Morning Pointe Foundation will host the Second Annual Mastering Memory Care Golf Tournament Thursday, April 28, at the Lookout Mountain Golf Club in Lookout Mountain, Ga. Shotgun start is at 12:30 p.m.
The tournament drives home the Morning Pointe Foundation’s mission to support nursing scholarship opportunities, caregiver initiatives and support groups and dementia care networks. More than 30 sponsors and 88 golfers were present at the 2015 tournament and raised $50,000. Many of these sponsors are returning to support this year’s event.
The 2015 funds enabled The Foundation to open a public resource library for families caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s and memory-related illnesses with special support from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The library, located at The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Chattanooga, creates a stronger partnership between the nonprofit and UTC’s Gerontology and Masters of Nursing programs.
The Foundation also presented practical nursing scholarship funds to three Tennessee colleges. Scholarship opportunities were awarded to students at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Athens, Tusculum College in Greeneville, and the Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Jacksboro. In addition, funds raised from last year’s tournament established partnerships with the Healthy Aging 2025 Caregiver Network.
The 2016 tournament sponsors have the opportunity to support both existing and new aging care initiatives, including REC-FAST – a program that gives caregivers the opportunity to restore, exercise and connect with other caregivers – and Memory Cafés – safe, social places where people living with memory loss or dementia and their caregivers can link with others touched by memory-related illnesses.
Sponsors participating in this year’s event include BrightStar Care of Chattanooga, First Tennessee Bank, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Miller & Martin PLLC, The Weston Group, ETSB, LLC, In Good Health PLLC, SimpleC™, Guardian Home Care, TIS Insurance, Neuhoff Taylor Architects and Modern Way Printing, among other businesses and organizations.
“The Foundation is honored and privileged to have new and returning sponsors participate in the tournament,” says Lori Hoeger, director of the Morning Pointe Foundation. “We are fortunate to promote the well-being of seniors and their caregivers through this and other fundraising events. We look forward to witnessing the impact our sponsors have as we continue to spread awareness about the growing needs of the aging population.”
Morning Pointe Foundation, founded in 2014, was funded by Independent Healthcare Properties LLC and Morning Pointe Senior Living founders Greg A. Vital and Franklin Farrow. Morning Pointe began contributing nursing scholarship funds in 2008 to Chattanooga State Technical Community College in Chattanooga.
